On August 28, Peru extended its national emergency until September 30 and prolonged a lockdown in some of the areas worst affected by the coronavirus. The South American country has one of the worst death rates in the world from Covid-19 with 86 fatalities per 100,000 people. Our dear families, teachers and friends in Cusco are in the thick of the virus outbreak and have been forced back into their homes with no sign of reprieve. We know many people who are sick and several who have lost their lives within the Manos Unidas family. The hospitals in Cusco have collapsed, there is no space. Long lines of people wait to buy overpriced tanks of oxygen to take home to their loved ones. It is a scary and devastating time. READ MORE
