Katie Muzzy is from New Hope, PA. A recent gradute in special education, Katie was looking for a volunteer experience where she could combine her two passions: international travel and children with disabilities. She found Manos Unidas volunteer program and decided it was a fit.
Katie has been working in Cusco since March 1, 2019, arriving just before the first day of school. She will be working as an assistant educator in Manos Unidas significant disabiliites classroom for the next six months with 8 students in Manos Unidas location in Saylla, Peru.
Katie loves this population of kids. She finds a way to make them laugh, loves on them and pushes them. She is supporting the head teacher in developing IEP goals (yes, in Spanish) and teaching students in small groups and individually.
“When I graduated college in the United States, I started looking for a purpose. Manos Unidas gave me a purpose. Being able to travel and work with people with special needs has always been a dream of mine and volunteering at Camino Nuevo has made that dream a reality. It is such an important organization that kids with disabilities in Cusco need. This school is amazing and I would not want to be anywhere else!” – Katie Muzzy, April, 2019
